The 10 Series is where Rolfing starts and healing begins.

Originally conceived as a teaching tool by Rolfing’s founder, Ida Rolf, the 10 Series has become the bedrock of Rolfing Structural Integration.

The 10 Series offers a way of looking at the body as a whole. By focusing on relationships, the 10 Series offers a way of looking at the body beyond the limitations of symptoms, parts or problems. Rolfing’s focus is on relationships: between structures: joints, tissues, fascia, nerve and bone; between spaces: inside to outside, left to right, up and down, back and front; between qualities: hollow to dense, painful to pleasurable, deep to superficial; and even between our selves: self to self, self to other and self to environment.

The 10 Series asks a series of questions of the body: Can this body breath? Can it feel the ground? Can it relate to sky? In each session Rolfer and client work together through touch, movement, and internal awareness to find the individual’s experience of these questions and to find what answers lie in the body. Each session builds on the last, bringing a new depth of inquiry and knowing about what it means to be living in the body you were born with.

By addressing the body in a series of 10 sessions over the course of 10 weeks to 10 months — the length of time determined by the client’s desire and need — clients of Rolfing engage deeply with their sensations, feelings and emotions. The process is one that heals as it explores the origins of painful patterns and the possibility of change in structure, movement and awareness.

The 10 Series is a great place to start with Rolfing — whether you are looking for relief from pain, for improved physical performance, or engaged in pursuit of personal inquiry, the 10 Series provides you with a coherent and wholistic foundation. Many people, once they complete the 10 Series go on to explore Advanced Rolfing, Rolf Movement and Somatic Experiencing.
